Summer is the easiest time of the year to become disorganized. We are all busy enjoying the sunshine, outdoors and time with our families as we should be. When we are busy enjoying life, it’s easy to be distracted from our office lives. Here are nine tips to help you stay organized in the office even in the midst of the summer fun.
The first tip to ensure you stay organized this summer is to plan! This is especially important if you have a ton of summer activities planned. Schedule them into your calendar as soon as plans are made to ensure that you stay on track with your office goals too. Sync your paper calendar to your phone calendar as well to ensure you don’t miss anything.
Keep all of your paper files organized by using a colour coding system. Use different coloured binders or folders to group papers together that are all for the same project or fall under the same topic. If you’re using online organization you can use the same principal too. Create different folders for each project or for different topics.
Pack Your Lunch
Packing your lunch might seem like an extra chore at the end of a long day. Making lunch will give you more time to enjoy your lunch hour and save you a ton of money. It’s great to take your packed lunch outdoors and catch some rays during your break too.
Exercise is an important part of life and remains as important during the summer months. Exercise will make you feel happy, accomplished, and will make you feel rewarded. If you don’t feel excited about hitting the gym, go for a run or walk outdoors, or take a swim in your local pool.
The summer months are short and many people skip out on sleep to get in the maximum amount of outdoor time. While it’s great to enjoy those warm summer nights, ensure you’re getting enough rest as well. Going without enough sleep for prolonged periods of time is not good for productivity.
Change the Scenery
If you have flexibility in your workplace, change the scenery every once in awhile. A change of scenery can help keep your mind focused on the tasks at hand.
Healthy eating is important during all the seasons, however, it’s easy to fall off track during the summer. With patio cocktails, and BBQ’s it’s easy to become distracted. Try and add extra fruits and vegetables to your menu throughout the summer to increase your natural energy.
Cut the Caffeine
Caffeine might feel like a lifesaver, but chances are it’s actually not. Your body will thank you for taking a break from it. If you’re looking for an energy boost, opt for water instead and focus on extra fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Burnout is all too common among working professionals and it’s easy to get burnt out in the summer months. When you’re busy on both the personal and business fronts be sure you’re getting some downtime too. This downtime is necessary so you’re not completely exhausted when fall rolls around.
These nine tips ensure you’re in for an organized summer. Do you have any tips that work for you to share? We’d love to hear them!
